MONA MUR IN CONVERSATION
Dietmar Post | Germany | 2024 | 82’ | OV
Mona Mur, born in Hamburg, influenced by the underground of the early 1980s and its flirtations with big pop, has traversed many musical territories in her career to date: The palette ranges from post-punk/industrial to independent electronic music, from punk torch songs to piano to hard, experimental guitar music – all with her own signature. The list of their collabs over the years: En Esch (KMFDM), FM Einheit and other members of »Einstürzende Neubauten«, Dieter Meier (Yello), J.J. Burnel and Dave Greenfield (Stranglers), Mark Chung, Alexander Hacke, Nikko Weidemann or even the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra – just to name a few.
Mona Mur now works a lot as a composer for film and computer game music. Mona Mur talks to Dietmar Post (director/producer of MONKS: THE TRANSATLANTIC FEEDBACK, DONNA SUMMER: HOT STUFF, DEUTSCHE POP ZUSTÄNDE and many more, and owner of the Play Loud! label) in a crystal-clear setting. Richly illustrated with photos and film and music video excerpts, the result is an illustrated oral history biography that describes straightforwardly, i.e. without exaggerations or omissions, what it means to be an artist, to act with one’s own ideas in the music business and to overcome resistance not only as a woman.
