SCOPITONES
Scopitones were 16mm films that were shown on the screens of special jukeboxes in bars and cafés from the 1960s onwards, a forerunner of the video clip. The evening will be hosted by DJ Toni Scopi aka Bernd Brehmer, co-owner of Werkstattkino München, which has a programme that playfully combines the abysmal and the shallow – and which also collects Scopitones! Bernd has curated two programmes from this collection, which he will present in person and comment on live. Curiosities from the early media history of music television, presented in a witty analogue style. There is something for practically every form of watching and listening: for a tingling sense of shame, for delight through naivety, for amazement at the effort involved or, with limited means, at the ingenuity, for journeys to other times with their different colours, fashions, sounds and gestures, and of course also for analytical or even critical looks at the traditional – an evening as if painted for the B-movie! And it’s hard to believe that this is the first time you’re seeing it in Hamburg!
